Yoga principally is against Christian religious beliefs so perhaps pilates would be better.

yoga is more stretching the muscles. Pilates is strengthening them. I’ve done both and yoga can be tough but it’s easy going and I like to do it before a jog or something. But Pilates is a workout of it’s own and you can be as sore as if you just did some weight training. They are both good for stretching and flexibility

Could you pleas describe to me how your aerobic fitness level is related to the success in basketball?
Nvm tht question bur what is a sport similar to basketball and why?

it is very important, you have to be in good cardio shape to run for the full game whether it be a full 48 minutes or less depending on what level you are. Playing defense alone is hard to do without cardio, because you are constantly moving and defending, and offensively you have to be moving and trying to either shoot, pass, or hit the offensive glass, so if you dont have proper cardio it can cost you points in the long run.

I took up yoga a few months ago to help me cope with stress and anxiety. I was just wondering if doing it for 30+ minutes counted as light exercise or if it was something more?

Some examples of poses in the routines I have done include: warrior (1 and 2), chair pose, sun salutation, tree, and twisting and bending poses.

i would say, yoga isnt an exersize, it is more like a relaxation progress.

I’m 12 years old, at a height of 4"11, and definitely weighing more than I should (at least 20 lbs. overweight-I think o.o). I want to not only lose weight, but become more healthy too. I want to look better and be more fit and lean for the next school year, so I definitely need some help. If you can, can you provide some exercises, tips, and the right foods to eat, or all in all, a health and fitness plan for me? It’ll be greatly appreciated :]

Being a personal trainer for 5 years , i could only advise you this . That at this stage of growth , you will encounter the most muscle gain/height gain/strength gain . The effects of puberty on your body is like instant growth enhancement . What you have to do to capitalise on this is a combination of things .

1) Improve on sports performance ( you are at your peak at mastering motor skill related activities , so pick up basketball , take jiu jitsu , and anything , and you will learn fast)

2) Do not do treamills (why do it when you can do soccer), you wanna burn calories , play soccer with friends , run up a hill , box , or wrestle younger siblings . Confirmed high calorie burn.

3) Do not take power lifting classes ( yes its true , it will stunt your growth , epiphyseal plates at the end of your bones will seal if you lift very heavy weights , stunting your growth )

4) Watch your diet ( eat more , just the low glycemic index foods) calculate your current weight , and your current calories , you can use a calorie counter at www.foodfocus.co.uk

5) Weight train sensibly , do weights but sensibly , lift any weight you can do for just 10 times and you cant do any more by the 11th .

But ultimately there are tons of advice i could dish out , why not take a look at this , a combination of all the best fitness industry information . Right here .

Its not weight I want to lose because that’s merely a number, but I want to become more toned. I want my body to be the size it should be nothing more nothing less. I have back problems including a rod in the lumbar region, therefor I cant do too much high impact working out. I LOVE yoga. I used to do it but got out of it. The past month I have gotten more involved in it again, and my flexibility and strength are coming back. With a mixture of walking 1-2 miles a day and hitting up the occassional elliptical runner… when would you say physical results will begin to show?

(Emotional/mental ones are definitly brinking. I feel great.) I want to look as good as I feel :) .

P.S. I am a vegetarian with fairly healthy eating habits.
*I am doing yoga 2-4 times a week for an hour each time. Hatha and power yoga. :)

I’ve just started yoga (Iyengar yoga) and I think the benefits show fairly quickly. I work out every day and am very active all day, but doing yoga has made an immediate improvement – targets muscles that I didn’t even know I have! Your schedule sounds terrific and I think you’ll see results really quickly if you keep it up, especially as you’re doing some great cardio (walking and using the elliptical….I love my elliptical…they’re a god-send!).
After just a few weeks of yoga my abdominal muscles have gotten so firm….(even with years of strength training, intense cardio, crunches and core-strength activities…yoga did the trick!) – I hope your results come quickly as well….but the main thing is that you enjoy it – congratulations on feeling great!
